This is the Linux distribution my server is based on. More information is available here. If you are looking to install openSUSE, there is more details in obtaining openSUSE 12.2.

Installation notes

  • Due to a buggy video driver, the server will not function correctly if the Mach64 video driver is allowed to load. The workaround for now is to make the server use the fbdev driver (standard framebuffer device). This is not the ideal solution, only a workaround. Some graphics in KDE are corrupted but useable for the time being. To make the server use the fbdev driver:
  1. During the installation process, you will get to choose what software packages will be installed. The way to make this work is only leave the fbdev driver on the computer so it has no choice but to use it.
  2. In the search box type 'xf86'. This will display a whole list of drivers.
  3. Find the drivers that begin with 'xf86-video-xxxx'
  4. Right click on all the modules except 'xf86-video-fbdev' and then select 'Do not install'. This has to be done one by one.
  5. Make any other adjustments to packages that you wish and then press 'Accept'
  • mdadm will mount the software RAID drives as '/dev/md127' during installation. After an update to mdadm, available on online update after the installation, this will change to '/dev/md0'. /etc/fstab needs to manually be changed to make this mount permanent.

This will be updated if any more information becomes available.
